Mr. Raymond Pryce (local scientist who was trained in manatee management) was initially invited in May of 1999 by the Schools Environment Network (SEN) to do a presentation on the manatees in Jamaica. Members of different high schools across the corporate area subsequently invited him to their schools to give 'talks' on the manatees. A conference was planned in March of 2000 by the Queen's High School's Environment Club, at which the following high schools decided to form a Manatee Awareness Club:

  1. Queen's High School
  2. St. George's College
  3. Jamaica College*
  4. Kingston College*
  5. Immaculate Conception High School*
  6. Alpha Academy*
  7. Mona High*
  8. Calabar High School*
  9. Kingston Technical High
  10. St. Hughs High School
  11. Garvey Maceo High

N.B. In the case of the schools with the asterisk (*), an Environment Club was formed, with special attention being placed on manatee awareness.
